Year 2 News
Wow! What A Fabulous Term of Learning
We have made it to the end of term one and we are very proud of all our students. We are particularly proud of 2A who not only moved rooms into the double classroom but also said goodbye to Mr Bray ad hello to their new classroom teacher Ms. Maxwell.
It’s been an extremely busy term of learning and our students are now ready for a well-deserved holiday and a visit from the Easter Bunny.
Inside Out Dress Up and Movie Day
On Thursday 23rd March, the students enjoyed a dress up and movie day to celebrate the end of our Unit of Inquiry, ‘How we Express Ourselves’.
This unit looked at how our emotions affect our communication skills. The students enjoyed learning about the character emotions, Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust. We also introduced them to Bing Bong who was an imaginary friend with all the emotions rolled into one. The students came up with their own class definitions for each emotion and discussed strategies to manage their emotions and big feelings.
Each Friday the students enjoyed learning how to draw each character with a guided drawing lesson through the Art Hub.
Our dress up and movie day was a big hit. It was fun seeing the students dress up as their favourite character or in the colour of one of the emotions. The students enjoyed watching the movie and loved lying on cushions and beanbags and the highlight for the students was munching on their special treats they bought from home.
The students completed a reflection sheet on the unit and finished the day completing an Inside Out Word search.
Easter Fun
On Monday the students enjoyed completing some Easter Writing. There were 4 templates for them to choose from.
- If I were the Easter Bunny
- If I met the Easter Bunny
- How to catch the Easter Bunny
- A letter to the Easter Bunny
There were some very creative writing and ideas on how to catch the Easter Bunny.
On Tuesday we welcomed the Year 4 students to our classroom to help us make our Easter baskets. The students worked cooperatively together and had a lot of fun.
Inquiry
Who We Are
A balanced lifestyle is influenced by the choices people make
Last week we began our new unit of Inquiry. We started the unit with the students enjoying three activities. Meditation, mindful colouring and a play on the new play equipment at the front of the school. We then discussed how the students felt during these activities and why they liked it. The students came up with some great ideas. Many students said they felt energised, relaxed, calm and that it was a time to give their brain a rest. We also talked about what it means to have a ‘balanced lifestyle’.
This week we looked at Healthy Food and drink options and the students prepared their own healthy lunch box and categorized foods into the various food groups.
Next term the students will complete an oral presentation about a particular sport and dig deeper into what it means to have a healthy lifestyle.
