Principal's Report

Mrs Duffy asked the School Captains to contribute to the Principal Report for the end of Term:

School Captains Report

What a term!!! We have loved the start of 2023 as the BNPS School Captains and have enjoyed the opportunities we have had to demonstrate leadership so far this year.

It has been a privilege to host many eventful whole school assemblies and we are all developing confidence with speaking in front of 600+ people!

We have seen some amazing accomplishments over the past 10 weeks. Some of our swimmers have been able to progress to State level after competing against other local schools and being successful in individual and team events. All of our Interschool Sport teams have shown improved skills and teamwork and some are progressing to Divisions.

A few weeks ago, Year 6 had the opportunity to venture into the city of Melbourne and visit the Shrine of Remembrance. We learned about the some of the wars and conflicts that Australian men and women have been involved in.

Not only did we gain insight into the history of war and the impact on Australia today, but we are now able to have more empathy and understanding about what our service men and women experienced.

This was especially relevant to us as 6A and 6B will be hosting our annual ANZAC Day Ceremony on the first day of next term and then 6C & 6D will present the Remembrance Day Ceremony in November.

Being School captains has already been so exciting this year – hosting the assemblies has been fun, but one of our favourite parts of the week is during ‘Take Action Thursday’ when we get to dig into Mrs Duffy’s and Nurse Nicole’s secret stash of lollies!

Stargazing

Oh, what a night….. the stars aligned and the clouds stayed away, so we had a wonderful evening of stargazing last Monday night. The 6 volunteers from the Astronomical Society of Victoria brought along an amazing array of telescopes for us to look through and wonder.

They were sharing all sorts of information with their audience and were very happy to answer so many questions. The moon was almost full, so it dominated our night sky. We found the Southern Cross, Orion and various nebulae and constellations. Venus and Mars made appearances early in the evening as well.

Many apps were shared during the evening, and we will publish a list when we collate them all. If you have a favourite please let us know.

Thanks to all the staff who supported the night and thanks to all the families who came along and enjoyed such a fantastic night.

ANZAC Ceremony

6A & 6B will be presenting the annual BNPS ANZAC Day ceremony on the first day of Term 2. Anzac Day is a commemoration of the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli, Turkey, on 25 April in 1915.

We invite all parents, family members and friends to attend this whole school event to acknowledge the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.

Date: Monday 24 April 2023Time: 2:30pm for a 2:40pm start

Location: Wood Street (weather permitting)

Hopefully you can attend this special event in support of our Year 6 students.
