Music Matters
The month of May is proving to be a busy one for our Performing Arts department!
Edmund Rice Assembly:
Thank you to our Senior Chorale and Ms Stephanie Gan for leading the singing of the Edmund Rice Anthem so competently during last week’s Feast Day assembly. Your contribution is always greatly appreciated.
Mother’s Day Liturgy:
Our College String Ensemble, Senior and Junior Chorale and Guitar Ensembles are looking forward to providing music at this special occasion on Friday morning. Students playing and singing during the liturgy will be required to sit with their ensembles.
Jazz Ensembles workshop:
Enormous thanks to Mr Geoff Power and Ms Laura Power for their work last Sunday with our Jazz musicians in preparation for upcoming events. Your enthusiasm, energy and dedication are certainly admired and appreciated by our students who take away so many special memories and knowledge from this experience. Thank you to the many boys who attended and gained so much. We look forward to hearing you in concert soon.
Headphones (earbuds):
If your son is in Years 5 - 8 or studies music as an elective in Years 9 – 12, can I please ask that your son keeps a pair of wired earbuds (as per the ones pictured here from Woolworths) in his pencil case. They are readily available at supermarkets, service stations etc and don’t need to be expensive. Listening tasks form an important part of our Music curriculum and as many of our music classes are also now using the keyboard lab, it is important that students have their own pair of headphones as it makes their music learning much more enjoyable! Thank you for supporting the Music Department in this regard.
Upcoming Events:
- Friday 26 May – An Evening of Chamber Music – 7:00 pm – Sarto Centre (choirs, strings, guitars, soloists). Performing students will need to arrive at the Sarto Centre for 6:30pm. No after school supervision will be provided.

We love celebrating the successes of our young musicians and actors within our St Pius X community. If your son has a music or drama achievement, please let me know so we can include it in Woodchatta. My email is awesthoff@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.
