The annual BSC Bands Night was a resounding success, with students from the school's Instrumental Music Program delivering a stunning performance that had the audience grooving all night long. The theme for this year's event was 'Disco Fever,' and the students certainly delivered on the promise of a night filled with classic disco tunes.

The event began with the 'Celebration’ of the first BSC Performing Arts event for the year - and this immediately got the crowd energised! This led into some of the genre's most iconic songs, from Stayin' Alive (Bee Gees),  Knock on Wood (Ammi Stewart) to I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor). The students' musicianship and infectious energy had everyone grooving away and waving their glowsticks!

The staff and audience were beaming with pride as they watched students take centre stage, showcasing the results of months of hard work and dedication. The students' passion for music was evident in every note they played, and their enthusiasm was palpable, creating an unforgettable atmosphere that kept everyone in attendance thoroughly entertained.

Bands Night was a celebration of the power of music to bring people together, and it was clear that our performers had put a huge effort into preparing for the event. The audience all left with smiles on their faces and a spring in their steps. There is a lot of talent and creativity within our school's music program!

Theatre Projector Shines!

Bands Night was the first opportunity we had to employ the school's newly installed Projection System in the theatre to its capacity.  The dynamic, high quality projections of disco scenes behind our performers added greatly to the theme of the evening!

The BSC Building Fund (Build*)financed the purchase and installation of this system ($24089) using funds donated by BSC families.

The system is utilised across many events, including year level assemblies, subject screenings, Subject Expos, Information Evenings, presentations and performances, and ensures that the BSC Theatre is a multi-functional facility that can be adapted for use to support all school learning areas and operations.

It will be exciting to see the projection system in action for Junior Production and the BSC Film Festival later in the year, taking our BSC Theatre experience to a new level!

*Tax-deductible donations to our Building Fund allow the school to realise ongoing upgrades to facilities, social spaces and other larger projects, improving the learning experience at BSC for current and future generations of students.

I really enjoyed learning both of the songs I performed in bands night. These songs allowed me to explore material that was separate to my normal music repertoire and to delve into the characteristics of disco -  and just have fun with it!  Apart from performing on stage at Bands Night, I also had the opportunity to get involved with some of the backstage elements too. It was interesting to take control of some of the sound mixing as one of the senior students. We worked towards Bands Night for about 8 weeks, with weekly band rehearsals and coaching by some of the instrument teachers, so it was amazing to see everything coming together on the night.

Performing in Bands Night was an awesome experience! Being able to watch the songs come together in rehearsal and learn new skills was really cool. This was especially good during the sound checks when we got to see all the practice pay off while playing 'performance-ready'. My favourite part was definitely the performance though; the whole atmosphere was incredible and everyone was really excited to perform their songs. After shaking off the initial nerves, going out on stage and seeing everyone wave their glowsticks in time with our song was amazing! It was a really fun night and everyone had a great time.

Participating in Bands Night was awesome! In preparation, we learned the song in our singing classes, then rehearsed in small bands with all the different instruments. It was very cool to hear how the song was coming together through this process. During the day of the actual performance, we went to the theatre to do sound check, where it all felt surreal. The actual performance went so well, and everyone was dressed up in disco clothes. It was cool to listen to all the other songs (most of which I knew) and to know that all that talent was at our school!
