Teacher - Drama

Year 10 Drama students recently attended a performance of the highly anticipated play 'I Wanna Be Yours' at the Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC). The play, which has received widespread critical acclaim, is a debut production from Zia Ahmed, a renowned poet and laureate from London.

'I Wanna Be Yours' is a contemporary love story that explores the themes of identity, culture, and love in a modern society. The play follows the journey of two individuals, Ella and Haseeb, who come from different backgrounds but find themselves falling in love. Through their relationship, the play explores the complexities of modern-day romance and the challenges that come with it.

As part of their Drama studies, the Year 10 students attended the performance and then had to write a review of the play. This exercise allowed them to analyse and evaluate the various elements of the production, including the acting, direction, set design, and overall impact of the play.

The students were excited about the opportunity to see a professional production and apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world context. They were able to draw on their understanding of Drama techniques and concepts to critically evaluate the play and to provide informed and insightful reviews.

The MTC has a reputation for producing high-quality theatre productions, and 'I Wanna Be Yours' was no exception. The play has been widely praised for its unique and engaging approach to storytelling, as well as its thought-provoking exploration of love and identity.

Our drama students were eager to experience the power of live theatre firsthand. They have used this experience to further develop their skills and knowledge in the field of drama and to expand their understanding of the art form.
