Message from the Principal

The hardworking Parents' Association members again ran a Second-hand Uniform Stall in Week 5.

Many thanks to parent volunteers Kylie Moreland and the other PA members who ran the stall on the day, and extra thanks to Deb Gough who managed preparation of stock for the stall prior to the day. The Parents' Association again raised over $1600 on the day.

Going forward, the PA welcomes the donation of uniform items (including school bags) that your family no longer requires.  Items can be brought to the General Office outer foyer and placed in the purple donation bin.

Events

There have been many students out on sport recently as well as a Chinese excursion for Year 10-12 students and Year 8 excursions to Merri Creek for Geography Fieldwork. We have also enjoyed music and drama performances, and Outdoor Education trips are in full swing too. The Proactive Police Unit have also conducted presentations to Year 7 and 11 students on digital footprints and bullying.   Year 12 students are getting excited about their formal which is coming up on Saturday 3 June.  It is great to see the number of activities going on.

Year 8 students enjoyed their year level camp during Week 4 of this term.  We look forward to bringing you their news in the next edition of the Brunswick Star.

Our Year 10 students recently participated in the Work Experience Program (also during Week 4).  Teachers made contact with students (either by phone and, where possible, in person) to check on their progress and get feedback from employers.   The  work experience program provides them with the opportunity to 'taste' working in a field to which they may (or may not) aspire, and so students have returned to school with some understanding of  workforce participation as well as some insight into their own career aspirations.  We will bring you news of this experience in the next edition of the Brunswick Star.

Principal Conference

I will be attending the State Principals Conference on Monday 5 June, and am delighted that Brunswick Secondary College has been asked to present a workshop. The workshop is on the implementation of the Holocaust curriculum into Year 10 Humanities. Dr Marianne Hicks, our Head of Learning - Humanities and Learning Specialist, will be co-presenting with Tracey Collie from the Melbourne Holocaust Museum. The workshop will describe the professional learning that BSC Humanities teachers undertook prior to implementation of the curriculum, and I will be speaking about the  leadership considerations of the implementation process.
