House Cross Country
On Wednesday the 5th of April, with sun shining and track marked, students were pumped, the scene set for a jubilant school Cross Country. As students prepared, you could sense the competitive spirit between not only students but staff as well, with Megan Bourke especially enthusiastic to dominate the field (including her son, Rory Bourke).
As the race started students were eager to take the lead but the question remained; who could endure the 5km trek up over hills, in and around bends, while avoiding those treacherous uneven surfaces. As students hustled through the first kilometre others were enjoying the blissful 3km walk around the lake. Avid runner, Tom Lyons, led the front of the pack, as did lunch-time run club devotee, Billy Welsh. Not far off the lead, staff member, Portia Hughes, was in close ranks with Ben Peacock, Fletcher Holz and Jet Kerr. Maths teacher and sports enthusiast, Evan Green, was a motivator in the middle of the pack, with Kody McDonnel, Zaviar Duff and Matilda Venes continuing to put in the effort.
Despite her pre-race jitters, Meg Lyons crossed the line as the fastest female of the race, while brother Tom took out the honours for the boys. It was great to see smiles on sweaty faces as students crossed the finish line amid fantastic support from staff, peers, parents and Beaufort Primary School students. A special thankyou to all who made the day possible. Congratulations to all participants in the race and to those who took out their Age Group Champion title.
