Principal's message

Hi all,
One of the things I love most about showing parents around the school is that you get to talk about all the wonderful things happening. Today I had the absolute delight to read and have read to me two stories written by two of our amazing Foundation students.
The joy and enthusiasm in which they read and wanted to share their work could barely be contained. A love of learning is what we work so hard to achieve for all our students. It is so vital that we, both teachers and parents, need to not only model that but share in those joys and experiences.
The work of Kaiden Bethel and Lyla Kairl was simply superb and what I found so enjoyable was their excitement in sharing their work. It is so good to see the programs we have implemented over the past 18 months to two years really begin to show the benefits. In addition, Maggie McMeel will be publishing student work shortly, so please be on the lookout.
As we have said previously, partnerships between school and home are essential. Good habits at home help your child at school enormously. For example, children need to be reading every night and being read to as much as possible. We all get busy; however the benefits are too great to ignore in developing your child as a successful learner. The developer of Sounds-Write, our synthetic phonics program, has a free online course for parents. This course will give you a great insight into the program, why we implement it and strategies for you to use at home. I highly recommend it.

2021 has been another frustrating year spent between school and Remote and Flexible Learning, however the support we continue to receive from our community has been brilliant. In particular our School Council and the various Sub-Committees. On behalf of everyone at Jamo, I would like to thank you for all your work, we greatly appreciate it. Bring on 2022 where we can reset to a degree and bring the community in once again. As was said at the Parents Association meeting last week, it will be great to reset and re-establish the significant community events we have had in the past. This is something I am looking forward to.
Communicating well with our community is vital to us. We will be sending out emails soon outlining key dates from now until the end of the year and a separate email outlining critical dates for the beginning of 2022, please be on the lookout for those.
Have a great week everyone!
Regards
Dean
