Orientation Day

It was wonderful to welcome the Auburn High School Class of 2027 to their Orientation Day this week!  Our largest ever Year 7 cohort, the students participated enthusiastically in a range of classes with their new Tutor Groups, including learning how to spell their names in ancient hieroglyphs in Humanities, improvisation games in Performance Studies, an intro to Van Gough in Art and acrostic poetry in English.  They took on the challenge of introducing themselves to at least one new friend, and had a go at practising our school motto, “Thinking Beyond” when they finished the day in a series of circus skills workshops from diablo to juggling.

Big thanks to our wonderful staff and student helpers for making it such a memorable day for our newest student cohort!

Friends of Auburn High School (FoAHS)

We are excited to announce that after a forced two-year hiatus thanks to Covid, the FoAHS has been revived!  It will be lovely to welcome our parent community back onsite in the new year through various events and opportunities.

The FoAHS were all set to run our Year 7 Welcome Afternoon Tea following Orientation Day but were sadly rained out!  We look forward to running a rescheduled event early in Term 1.

Building project update

The building project is picking up speed again and works will be continuing over the summer break.  We are hopeful that the heating and cooling system will be finished and ready to go for us in Term 1.  The Language Centre and Library have been decanted ready for the commencement of extensive reconfiguration works this week.  Once complete, we will have four brand new full-sized classrooms, two staff offices and a lovely new library space.

Planning is on track for our exciting new senior building, with our architects putting the final interior design touches in place.  We’re slated to break ground in Term 1, and all things going according to plan, the new building will be complete ready for the 2023 school year.

I’d like to thank those families who have been able to contribute to our Building Fund over the past year or so, as this is directly funding the first-floor reconfiguration works at a cost of approximately $300k.

Finally, my best wishes to all for a safe, happy and healthy summer holiday break, and a very happy new year!
