French Ambassador visit

Last week France’s ambassador to Australia, Jean-Pierre Thebault, and Myriam Boisbouvier-Wylie, French Honorary Consul General in Melbourne visited our school.  This was the first official visit of the French Ambassador to a school in Melbourne and he wanted to see the running of our successful French language programs.

The ambassador visited classes and spoke to students about his appreciation of schools immersing their students into French culture as it is important to be able to have an insight into another culture and be able to preserve it.  Our School Captain, Elise Falay, said it was an honour to be able to speak to the ambassador and to listen to his advice about continuing French studies.

International Baccalaureate Update

Over the past three years, Auburn High School has been working toward the implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, which we are planning to launch in 2023.

In 2021, AHS gained 'candidate' status from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). Twelve AHS staff members successfully completed the four-week IB Category 1 professional learning workshop, which will enable them to teach their subject within the Diploma Programme.

AHS is currently in the 'authorisation' stage of the process of becoming an IB World School.  The authorisation phase in 2022 will involve working with an IB consultant to implement the IB standards and practices at AHS and develop our IB curriculum documentation in preparation for first IB cohort in 2023.  Authorisation will be determined by a representative from the IBO who will visit the school and assess AHS against the IB standards and practices toward the end of 2022.  We are looking forward to this next stage of our IB Journey.

Thank you

This is our last newsletter for the year, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank our staff for their wonderful work throughout the continual lockdowns and for their continued focus on student learning, wellbeing and provision of extracurricular opportunities.  Our school is increasing in enrolments and is maintaining its positive trajectory.  Next year we will be having our largest cohort of Year 7 students with over 160 students starting with us.  On Tuesday we had Orientation Day which was a wonderful opportunity for Grade 6 students to meet other students and experience a day at our school. A big thank you to Parents from Friends of Auburn High School (FoAHS) for welcoming new families.  We are also looking forward to our next building project, the construction of our senior school which will be located on the corner of Burgess Street and Auburn Road.

Thank you to all parents, students and to School Council members for your support in our eighth year as Auburn High School.

I would like to wish all staff and families a safe and relaxing holiday and I look forward to seeing you all in 2022.
