Student Agency at its Finest

It is always something to be celebrated when students show genuine compassion and consideration for others.

These amazing Year 4 students decided to spend their time making wrist bands to sell at our Night Under The Stars, all with the generous purpose of donating any proceeds to the Anti Cancer Council. They gave up their lunchtimes to create their bands and opened their group to others who wished to participate in the activity.

They decided to sell their bands for a gold coin and raised $111 on the evening which certainly surpassed their expectations.

A cheque has been written for their charity and the students should feel an immense sense of joy in their achievement.

From an idea, to a project, and then an outcome. We are extremely proud of every student who participated.

iPad News and Reminders

It has been great to see and hear that the majority of students are meeting their obligations with the iPads by making sure they arrive at school with the iPad charged and in working order. However, there has been a concerning spike in damage and missing iPads. It has not been pleasant to inform families that they have to repair or replace the iPads at a cost of up to $480. Please ensure you continue to monitor the condition of your child’s iPad. If the iPad is damaged, please seek to repair it immediately.

Students also need reminding that the iPad is on loan to them and that school staff have the right to remove or disable iPads if students are not following their teacher’s instructions or not using the iPad as directed. Please support us in helping your child to understand their obligations.  Misuse will lead to iPads being held at the office until a parent/guardian collects the iPad. Please remind your child that they have agreed to the ICT Acceptable Use Policy that is in their school diary.

Please be aware that students are permitted to take iPad home over the January school holidays if $100 of the curriculum charges are paid by Friday 29th November 2019. If payment is not received by this date, iPads will be collected from Thursday 5th December 2019 for auditing.

Teachers have been notified to adjust programs in case your child will be without an iPad for the remainder of the year.

Thank you for your continued support of the 1:1 iPad program. Without the strong support, we would not be able to deliver the incredible learning opportunities provided through the use of iPads.

First Lego League

Our First Lego League team surprised themselves last Sunday.

They started their day nervously not knowing what to expect as a rookie team. They had to complete their first round  of the Robot Competition and all their judging events in the first 90 minutes of the day.

In the second round of the Robot Competition our students stunned themselves with a 265 point run (we were expecting to score 150 points) which put them in then lead temporarily and had them dreaming of a National Championships berth.

However shortly after the eventual winners posted a 345 point run. Unfortunately, we did not progress after missing out on the trophies across the four categories.  At the end of the day all involved had a great time and were proud of their performance.

When you see Kani, Brock V, Jakson, Jad, Blake and Ethan O congratulate them on their efforts.

A big thank you to Dave P. for getting the game tables constructed. They were unexpectedly called upon during the tournament.

Regards,

Andy Demetrius
