Curriculum Matters

3D Printing from Evok3d

Jells Park Primary School would like to extend our massive appreciation to the Carmody family for donating to us a 3D printer!

Joe, Yana and Alexander (Grade 1) were keen to support the STEM curriculum in the school and share their passion for technology and 3D printing by partnering the school with their family business, Evok3d.

The students at JPPS will be able to use their creativity and engineering skills through this new medium.

Level 3 & 4 Dandenong Market Excursion

On Tuesday 21 March the Level 3 and 4 braved the wild weather to explore the Dandenong Market as a part of our integrated unit ‘Australia and its Neighbours’. It was a fantastic day following a scavenger hunt around the market to find information about our neighbouring countries. We enjoyed finding international flags, interesting fruit and other weird and wonderful things from around the world. The highlight for most however, was definitely the delicious lunch!

Secrets of the Sea Celebration

On Tuesday 21 March, the children in Level 1 & 2 had a wonderful time celebrating their learning during the Secrets of the Sea dress up day. It was great to see the creativity put into the dress ups and wonderful use of recycled materials. The children also had a chance to share the great posters they created; these included many facts learnt about various sea creatures throughout the term. We are very proud of their hard work this term.

Thank you to all of the Parents and family members that joined us for the celebration.

Level 1 and 2 Teachers.

Here are some reflections from the children:

On Tuesday, the Level 1’s and 2’s had a sea creature parade. All the Grandparents, sisters, brothers, parents and friends came. We sat in a circle and the Level 6 captains called out all the different sea creatures so that everyone could see the great dress ups. Then we got to share our projects in the classroom. It was great.

On Tuesday, we went into the GP Room and all the students dressed up as sea animals. There were sharks, crabs, stingrays, jellyfish, and seahorses. All the parents came and everyone had fun.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Jells Park Primary School is excited to be participating.

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development.

It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2017.

Children from Foundation to Level 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Level 3 to Level 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and they can choose to have their name included on the online Honour Roll.

Students have been issued with a consent form and will need to return it to school if they wish to have their names published.
