Year 9 Digital Construction

Robots

This semester in Digital Construction we have been focusing on the creation of robots in small groups. All students are indulged in designing, programming or even both. Some are designing their own robots so they are suitable to carry out wanted tasks, others are programming their pre-designed robots. Three groups in our class are working individually but later will come together to do a sequence of tasks : it starts of with a robot programmed to collect mini, coloured blocks, next it moves on to a robotic arm which is coded to pick up the blocks and place them on a colour sorter, which according to its name is designed to sort out the coloured blocks in colour. This is a perfect example of how groups of people who could be doing completely different things, can come together to do a task together.

During this semester we faced a couple of challenges, the main one was figuring out how to program the robots to do the tasks we wanted them to carry out, after we had constructed the robots, many of us were lost on how to program successfully, although later on we started getting used to the process.

Though we faced challenges, and had times when we couldn’t be bothered, this project is highly enjoyable, and gives us the chance to experience programming which also  allowed us to also have the chance to figure out if we want to, and where do we want to go with it next.
