Orientation Week

Orientation week began with a welcoming assembly where students from our feeder Colleges and from outside of the Federation joined together as one to form the Catholic Regional College Sydenham community. Each campus brought along a symbol to represent the students that came from their College. Students were then welcomed by Federation Friends (2018 Year 12 Students) in their new Homegroups and spent time getting to know each other and the school.

From Tuesday onward, three days of classes were held where students were able to begin their course work and get started on their VCE, VET and VCAL work. This was a productive start to their program.

The week concluded when we celebrated community day. After a week of classes and familiarising themselves with their programs, students participated in a range of activities. The day began with a focus on each student's faith journey and reflecting on their best memory from their previous school and their hopes and dreams for the next two years. They created an emblem representing these ideas and added them to their wooden crosses, symbolic of the journey they are about to undertake. Over the next two years, each student will have the opportunity to add further symbols to signify their development into the person they will become.

Cluster activities were organised to facilitate teamwork within each Home Group. Activities such as word-a-dough, newspaper fashion parade, hula-hoop racing, handprints, water and chocolate eating races were ultra-competitive and judging by the laughter around the school a lot of fun.

After sharing lunch together, the day was concluded with a whole year trivia contest. Singing along to the music clues enhanced the atmosphere showing a strong affinity to their new Cluster and in turn to the community of Catholic Regional College, Sydenham.
