Importance of Driver Safety

Year 10 - BStreet Smart Excursion

Year 10 BStreetSmart Excursion

Year 10 students travelled to the Qudos Bank Arena on the 17th August 2017 to attend the BeStreetSmart program.  It was held for 3 days and engaged over 19, 500 students in real life experiences of the aftermath of fatal crashes.

The BeStreetSmart is an educational program that aims to promote awareness of the risks and the outcomes of the decisions made by individuals on the road.  This program was designed to target students in year 10-12 because the NSW statistics show teenagers are the most at risk.

“ The BStreetSmart presentation truly opened our eyes to the reality of the road; the dangers present on the road and the long-term ramifications of certain mentalities.  We were further informed through the interactive exhibits about how even a little over the speed limit could have detrimental impacts.  The audience were confronted by the

re-enactment of a fatal car crash, that resulted to life threatening injuries and death as well as legal and medical procedures involved in the aftermath.

This, along with the testimonies challenged preconceived notions of road safety, evoking us to re-evaluate the importance of our choices.  To change the statistics, we should be responsible for our own and others’ safety by being careful and cautious on the road.”
