Year 8 Buddy Reading Program

The Year 8 Buddy Reading Program started this year in Term 2 and will continue during Terms 3 & 4. Students, who volunteer, receive training in MultiLit Reinforced Reading, using the Pause Prompt Praise strategy. They are also encouraged to use the ‘Super Six’ Comprehension and Questioning strategies to help our students’ comprehension, as well as strengthen their own skills in this area.

While in class, they read and discuss the levelled reading books - some have simple words and pictures, while others are chapter books - depending on the level of each student. The Year 8 Buddies ask questions that help to relate the story back to real experiences our students have had, which helps develop meaning to what they are reading.

Year 8 Buddies also help with sounding out unknown words and sight words. As you can see from the photos, our students in the Support Unit thoroughly enjoy this one-on-one time together.
