Skiing the Slopes - Thredbo

Year 11 Ski Camp

Year 11 Ski Camp

On Monday the 14th August, 35 Year 11 students travelled down to Thredbo for our annual Ski Camp.  Upon arrival in Jindabyne, we hired our snow equipment and prepared ourselves for the exciting day ahead.

After waking up bright and early to a lovely sunrise, a group of excited and eager students hopped on the bus and headed for the snow fields. Shortly after arriving in Thredbo, we put on our gear and were divided into groups based on our preference of skiing or snowboarding.  We then met with our instructors and began our morning lesson.

In this two hour session we were taught all of the basics to build up our confidence and ability, which would later assist us greatly over the course of the trip.

Despite the rain and cold conditions, after a quick lunch break, we were eager to rejoin our groups and get back on the slopes.  Our funny and helpful instructors continued to teach us different skills and techniques, eventually allowing us to conquer Friday Flats and more.  Departing the fields at 4pm, we headed back to the lodge, immediately jumping into the nice, hot showers.

After a relaxing night playing ping pong, pool and uno, we had a goodnight’s sleep, preparing ourselves for another day of adventure.

On Wednesday, although we were sore and tired, we travelled back to the slopes and were ready to make the most of the time we had left at Thredbo.  After our last lesson with the instructors, we were given free time for the remainder of the day to put all of the skills we had learnt into place.

Once we returned our ski gear in Jindabyne, we began the long journey home where many of us used this time to sleep and relax.

Overall, Ski Camp was an amazing opportunity and experience, allowing many of us to learn a new skill with our friends.  Not even the rain or freezing cold temperatures were enough to draw us away from the all of the fun and enjoyment it brought us.
