Please see the attached document which gives parents advice from the Australian Government's Department of Education, Skills and Employment Office regarding the collection of student address information.

Kokoda Track Participants' Training Hike

Our next training hike is scheduled for Sunday 1 March. As the expedition is now rapidly approaching, we will step up our training hikes. We will be hiking from Cowan to Mt Ku-ring-gai - about 18km.

This is an opportunity for all participants to meet, prepare and to discuss all aspects of the Kokoda Track Expedition 2020.

When:  Sunday 1 March 2020

Meet:   Eastern end of Glenview Rd, Mt Ku-ring-gai (just after Aldi) at 7.00 am

Finish: Mt Ku-ring-gai 2 - 3.00 pm (approx.)

Need:  2 litres of water (refill at Berowra Waters), hat, sunscreen, snacks/lunch, sense of humour, the pack you plan on carrying on the expedition (day pack)

We will do a car shuffle from Mt Ku-ring-gai to Cowan train station. In the event of severe weather or bushfires or flooding we will cancel the hike.

All members of the College community are welcome to attend these hikes.

Please note that I will confirm the following hikes as we move closer to the dates (please place them on your calendar).

Duke of Edinburgh Hikes

In support of our Duke of Edinburgh Award program, training will begin for our new Bronze Duke of Edinburgh students on Monday 9 March in S1 from 3.30 pm – 4.30 pm. This training is in preparation for their Adventurous Journey. Due to risk minimisation considerations, students who do not complete this pre-training will not be permitted to complete the Adventurous Journey component of their Duke of Edinburgh Award through the College. Many companies external to the College offer these Journeys. A permission note can be collected from Mr de Silva or the Outdoor Education notice board (Outside Mr de Silva’s office). Students are advised to read the school daily notices.

Training has already commenced for our Silver participants in preparation for their Adventurous Journey at the end of Week 9.

A reminder that Co-Curricular commitments always take priority over organised College Adventurous Journeys. Discussion must take place between the student and the coach well in advance of a departure date if there is a clash. Being released from a co-curricular commitment is at the coach’s and sport convenors discretion.

Chinese New Year Celebration

Chinese New Year began this year on 25 January and came to an end on 8 February. In Week 4 during the Friday afternoon assembly, to celebrate the end of Chinese New Year 2020, the Junior School displayed their take on this joyous event. Year 5 created red lanterns to symbolise the start to a bright future in the year ahead. Year 6 presented a speech about Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rat and sung a well wishes song “Gong Xi Gong Xi” to wish everyone the best of luck for the year. Well done to these boys for their great effort.

Chinese Club

Chinese Club is open to students in Years 7 to 12 and aims to be a place of fun and opportunity, for students to explore activities, try foods and play sports and games related to the Chinese culture.

Each term, we will explore a different aspect of Chinese culture - Arts and Crafts, Food and Drinks, Games and Activities, Song and Martial Arts. This program aims to provide a meaningful and fun way to enrich and develop the cultural awareness of individuals living in today’s diverse society.

Chinese club will run on Day 5 and Day 10, during lunch time from 1pm in Room D1.

Please see below attachment for further information on the weekly program.

Senior Maths Drop-In

It is absolutely wonderful to say that Maths Drop-In has begun for 2020. The sessions run each Tuesday & Thursday morning 7.40 am - 8.40 am in C1.

With assessments approaching fast, concepts are taught, practice papers are completed and problems are solved all with the company of your mates.

This is the ideal place where students can come and feel comfortable to ask questions and nut out some challenging problems. Rewards are given, laughs are heard and words of encouragement are shared. Come along and be a part of the team in C1.
