Year 6 Camp

Phillip Island Adventure Resort

Year 6 Camp!

On Tuesday July 12th, the Year 6 students set off to Phillip Island Adventure Resort. It was the first time the current Year 6 students had ever been on a school camp. Understandably, the students were extremely excited. The camp was action packed with activities including the giant swing, archery, flying fox, canoeing and more. We extend a big thank you to the staff at Phillip Island Adventure Resort for their hospitality. Additionally, the staff would like to commend the students on their excellent behaviour and the perseverance demonstrated when faced with challenges or fears. We hope each and every student made lifelong memories that they will cherish for years to come.

My favourite camp moment was team rescue because we had to work as a team by bringing the fake wounded man to the end of the course. We had some planks of wood to help us cross and if we touched the floor we had to go back to the last checkpoint. There was a goose there and  Mr Mullaly accidentally stepped on its foot! (Don't worry, the goose is ok). This activity was fun because we experienced teamwork.

My favourite activity was the flying fox. We had to climb ladders up to a platform and wear safety equipment such as a harness and helmet. I liked the feeling of the cold wind blowing on me while going down. I also enjoyed being in the cabins because I liked how we played games in our cabins. My favourite camp moment was probably the activities I did with my activity group.

The most enjoyable moment at camp was canoeing, except for spiders… My canoeing partner was scared of the depth of the lake. Guess what? The lake was shaped like Australia! A bit like the ‘Shapes biscuits’. We wore safety gear and some old clothes then hopped into the canoes. Fergus told us some instructions then we set off like geese! Speaking of geese, my canoeing partner and I crashed into a border while a goose was standing there. We screamed, backed off cautiously but then Mr Ru charged at us like a goose and splashed water on us! In the canoe, spiders were hanging from the edge of my seat. At the end we were soaking wet because of Mr Ru! Camp was fun, not just fun but like a dream that I thought would never happen.

My favourite activity was the giant swing because it was really fun even though it was the scariest activity. I will always remember when the teachers splashed me with water while canoeing. My favourite camp moment would be having fun doing activities with my friends such as the flying fox. I learnt to leave my comfort zone and have fun!

My most cherished moment at camp was during the flying fox! As Holly finished explaining the safety rules, she asked for two volunteers to go first. Of course I raised my hand and so did my partner.  We put our harnesses on and waited for Holly to tell us when to climb up the ladder. Once we reached the platform, Holly made us secure in the harness. My stomach was filled with butterflies and I wanted to leave. As my partner Tyler and I stood on the platform he tried to leave but I persuaded him to jump. I screamed louder than the sound of exploding fireworks as I flew through trees. I even let both of my hands go at one point! When I reached the end, I realised how fun it was. Long story short, it was very enjoyable and I'd love to do it again.

My favourite camp moment was going on the flying fox. As I was listening to the instructions, my heart was pounding and I was unsure if I should go or not. After we finished listening, Holly, who was the camp instructor for the flying fox, asked for a volunteer. My friend Tenuli put her hand up so fast! She was really brave. Holly showed us how to put our harness on, she then asked Tenuli to choose a partner and she chose me! I felt so nervous as I got ready. Tenuli and I climbed to the top of the flying fox with the people who were going after us. We stood on the platform and got attached to the carabiner which is a hook that connects you to a rope. My stomach filled with butterflies. When Hollie told us that we could go, we sat in our harness and it started moving really fast!! I screamed a little at the start but then I realised it was really fun! I let both hands go, sadly it was soon time to get off. I also really enjoyed the campfire. We ate delicious smores and had a great time!

My favourite activity was giant swing because the feeling of pulling the rope was exhilarating! Adrenaline was rushing through my entire body. I will always remember the twin flying fox because the feeling when I got to the top platform was the best thing I had ever felt. I think I will remember this the most because I did the activity with Matteo. My favourite camp moment would be when I saw our cabin for the first time. We also started a fan club in the name of Fergus, the camp instructor. Holly was kind and had a positive attitude towards everything. We also had a Mini Olympics. Team Matt (group 4) won. I was in that group and was happy to contribute towards a win. Canoeing was also fun. We played tag and a type of capture the flag but with mythical beasts. I got flipped by Mr. Ru when he was “trying” to help me get out of my canoe. Long story short we had lots of fun and would love to do it again sometime.

My favourite moment during camp was the Giant swing. The anticipation was heavy. My legs were trembling while I was waiting in line for the swing. The harness we had to wear was insanely uncomfortable and they were just plain annoying to wear. Holly, the person who controlled the swing, yelled my number. The moment she did, my brain just stopped and was having a tantrum. The second I stepped on the ladder I felt slightly faint headed. She then explained that I needed to pull a rope once I reached the top. The strap was tight. She counted my group in, who were holding onto the rope that was holding me up. Before I knew it I was up in the air and holding my stomach just as Holly said to let go. I practically leapt in the air and flew off as if I was a wrecking ball . My stomach was aching and I was screaming. Next thing I knew I was on my two feet and wanted to fly off all over again.
