Updates and Reminders

Semester 1 Reports

In Week 10 (Wednesday 6th July) Semester 1 student reports will be sent home. These reports will provide an indication of your child’s achievement and progress at school up to this mid year point, supplementing the information provided at parent interviews earlier in the year. As per department requirements, families receive two written reports each year (the end of Term 2 and Term 4) and parents are also encouraged to attend parent interviews and to make contact at any time or arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher if you require further information about their progress. Student reports (Yrs 1-7) are based on a 5 point scale which indicates an A – E grade standard. A ‘C’ grade standard indicates that a student is achieving at the expected standard for their year level.

Enrolments for 2023

All parents/carers of Reception aged children who are looking to enrol their children at Woodville Gardens School, B-6 next year are encouraged to contact the school or alternatively, submit an expression of interest form (which can be downloaded from the school’s website). For new families with children of other grade levels looking to enrol, the same process applies. We request that all expressions of interest are submitted as soon as possible; preferably before the end of this term. To also assist with class planning, if your child/children will be moving at the end of year we would appreciate you informing the school as soon as you know.

For children looking to enrol a child in Reception in 2023 the following guidelines apply:

·        If your child turns 5 before 1 May, they can start primary school (the first year is known as Reception) at the beginning of the year.

·        If your child turns 5 after 1 May and, they can start the next year.

·        All children must be enrolled at school by 6 years of age, which is the compulsory school starting age.

The Department is introducing a mid year intake for Reception children in 2024, please see below:

So What’s The Big Deal About Attendance

Every day matters in the school life of a child or young person. Each day of attendance has a positive effect on their development and future success. Children and young people who do not attend school regularly also miss out on planned learning experiences, sequences of instruction and class participation. The impact of this loss is compounded with each absence. It is also more difficult for them to build positive relationships with others.

Of course we definitely do not want sick children at school. It is not in their best interest and sick children spread their illness to others. At times medical and other appointments can only be made during school time, as long as the school is notified of course this is OK. Don’t forget to let us know by note, txt message, call or email when your child is absent or late.

Thank you for your support in this matter.
