Term 2 in STEM

It has been a busy time in the STEM room towards the end of this term, with a number of grades consolidating their learning with a design challenge project. Grade 6 students tackled their 'Make a Periscope' challenge this week with pleasing success. There is nothing more satisfying than hearing screams of "It really works!!" echoing through the classroom. It was also great to see students improving their production efficiency by using templates and plans to save time and minimize waste.

Grade 4 students also dived into a design challenge this term with their 'Marble Run' Project. Students used their understanding of friction and gravity to create an obstacle course for a rolling marble. They researched different surfaces, planned their course using diagrams and finally assembled and tested their courses. Trial and error problem solving skills were at the forefront and team collaboration was a must! Check out some of the photos below.

And......Finally, to follow up on the Grade 5 Garden Project. Check out the growth difference. I think it's safe to say, we have some budding young gardeners among us.
