Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

Community.

Thank you for your wonderful support at our 120th fete where funds helped in the development of our new playground which was completed and opened recently by HON Simone McGurk MLA for Fremantle. It looks fantastic and will provide many hours of play for our students. Our thanks too for the support you gave during our ‘Colour Run’ held previously which partially funded the Journey mural completed by Jade Dolman.

Support for our school community has also extended to families and friends of the Traylers. Their support for one of our school families after the passing of Ian, one of our parents, has been fantastic and very much appreciated.

We are currently developing a new project with a State government Arts grant successfully applied for by Nyanda, one of our parents. This involves an artist in residence working with classes to develop a fired tile mural. Well known local visual artist, Jenny Dawson will work with our school during terms 3 and 4.

In Week 9 the school and P&C have funded two bitumen game markings which will provide an outdoor activity during classes and recesses for students.

Winter Sports.

Good luck to our Winter Sports teams representing us in Football, Netball and Soccer who will be competing next Friday against other local schools. Currently White Gum Valley holds the Soccer and Netball shields. Our new set of Netball/Basketball posts have been a great addition to the courts area of the school; arriving in time to use before the carnival.

‘Your Move’ Initiatives.

Students from Year 6, who are our ‘Your Move’ team for 2022, joined Year five students who recently travelled to Maylands and the Constable Care Road Traffic Centre. Whilst there, they participated in a series of lessons around bike and pedestrian safety before venturing out onto a purpose-built road and rail set up complete with working traffic lights, boom gates, roads and other signage to practise their skills riding bikes supplied by the Centre.

The next project for the ‘Your Move’ team is a Bike Repair day on Friday 1 July, the last day of term, just in time for the holidays. Funding for this event and the excursion came from points collected for writing articles on various transport activities that the school undertakes during the year. The program is supported by the Department of Transport.

Students from Years 4-6, this time around will be approached beforehand, to see if they will be bringing in their bike on the day as there are only 30 places available.

Recent School Development day.

Staff looked at various areas during the pupil free day depending on their phase of learning which included: looking at strategies for the inclusive classroom, best practice in the use of IPads with a visit from staff from a lighthouse school, grammar and the role of Talk for Writing, which is one of our whole school programs, online professional learning on ASD for support staff, revisiting our early years vision and Play policy as well as discussing recently collected testing data.

School Reports.

Staff have also met earlier in the term to review how we present Semester Reports. Staff worked on including comments for Literacy and Numeracy and have broken them down to pass on: how a student is going, what has been covered and a goal/s for the next semester. The school has also decided on providing a description of what was covered for the other learning areas rather than just a grade. I thank the staff for their enthusiasm and input during our review.

School Disco.

This very popular event is being rescheduled until the weather is better.

Photo Catch up.

Our school photographers are returning to the school on Tuesday morning 21 June to complete family and individual photos which couldn’t be undertaken previously. They will be here from 8:30am until 10:00am. Please contact the school if you have any queries.

Congratulations to Mrs Johnson and the year 4 students on their recent assembly and to all, of the students acknowledged with honour certificates. It was a wonderful event.
