Bucket Filling Activity:
This week we learnt all about what it means to be a ‘bucket filler’. The children loved having free run of the craft supplies and made their own physical ‘bucket’. When they arrived the next morning, there was a note from their teacher with a individual positive message for each child. For our writing session we spoke about nice sentences that we can say to one another – starting them with ‘You are…’. We brainstormed many lovely ideas. Children loved writing notes and popping them into someone’s bucket with a smile! They wrote more than one each and it was a magical session. Children then chose to write more later that day in their spare time. While note writing is just one way we can fill our buckets, it was a great lesson that the children adored! We hope you enjoyed reading the notes when they went home. You may want to encourage your child to write more thank you notes/cards as incidental writing at home. This could be for a grandparent, cousin or friend.

This week we read the story ‘10 Rules of Being a Superhero’. We then had an interesting discussion about what we would be like as superheroes. What our names would be, what powers we would have, what we would do and look like. First students had time to plan their ideas by drawing their pictures. This allows children to gather their ideas before writing. Students returned to the floor and saw a modelled example by their teacher, which they helped to finish. Giving them ‘openers’ for their own sentences, such as ‘I can..’, ‘I have…’ and ‘I would…’ assists them greatly. Students then planned their first sentence in their mind, with a partner and could return to their table to begin writing. Students write without fear and know that writing is not about getting it all right, it’s about having a go. Here are some lovely examples from two very creative minds, Maggie and Gus!
In Foundation, we have been learning about ‘filling peoples buckets’. To fill someones bucket you need to be kind, such as say something nice or give someone a smile. We read the story ‘How to be a bucket filler’ and students then decorated their own ‘buckets'. The next session students wrote kind and thoughtful messages to ‘fill’ their peers buckets! It was such a lovely lesson!! Have a look at some of our buckets and lovely notes.
We are nearly finished out addition unit in maths. This week we read a story called One is a snail, Ten is a crab. Students loved reading this story and doing fun addition sums from the chacters from the book. One of the activities involved cutting and pasting the animals and adding up how many 'legs' were all together. It was an opened ended task, have a look at some of Foundation B’s mathematicians below!
Foundation C have thoroughly enjoyed expanding their addition knowledge over the past few weeks.
We read the wonderful book One is a Snail and learnt about different ways to represent numbers.
Here is Rory Si’s fantastic representation of some addition sums.
We have also been loving our PMP sessions and a huge thank you to parents who are coming along to help out.
Here are Hamish, Rory Sm and Harriet who really loved the bouncy balls!
