Science

This week in Science:
The whole school has been looking more closely at paper and how it is made. Students used magnifying glasses to take a closer look at different types of paper, and how the structure of the fibres differ. Students used sticky tape to take fine samples of the paper fibres. They drew and recorded observations in their science books.
Students considered the properties of different papers and how these properties determine what the paper is used for. For example, it was agreed that if we wanted to send a gift to someone overseas, we wouldn’t wrap it in tissues, nor would we blow our nose on cardboard!
3 – 6 students will be taking their investigations further by designing an experiment to test a particular property of different papers, such as permeability or strength.
