Reading Groups:
We have been busy little bee’s this Term, practising our reading strategies to develop our literacy skills. Here are some pictures of our Word Work activities – writing our high frequency words on whiteboards and playing word games using scrabble letters or letter tiles. We love sharing our learning with each other during reading groups.
This week in 1B the students began revising what subtraction means and played a game called 'Alien Smash'. They had to read a worded problem and make it out of play dough - smashing the play dough as they took away the smaller amount. We incorporated musical chairs at the same time so that the students could wiggle and jiggle in between each alien worded problem. They had to sit down in a new spot each time the music stopped. Great fun and learning was had by all!
1B have been practising writing their own narratives. As a class we have been discussing the setting and characters (beginning) and the problem and solution. Below is a lovely example based on the story Mrs McFee.
We have been learning about narrative texts and have enjoyed sequencing fairytales before retelling them together as a class. Here is our retell of Jack and the Beanstalk!
