Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,

What incredible performances on Tuesday with our junior production Welcome to the Jungle. The students were absolutely stunning with everyone shining on stage. Many thanks to our incredible audiences attending the matinee and evening shows. The support for the children was outstanding. Thank you also to our incredible staff who work tirelessly to bring the show together with a special mention to our performing arts team to include Mrs Lindi Morrison, Mrs Jacky Morgan and Mrs Madison Runchey.

Dolly’s Dream Incursion

Yesterday our year 5 & 6 students engaged in a session with the Dolly’s Dream Foundation. Dolly was a 14 year old girl living in the Northern Territory who suffered online bullying and took her own life. There were some very powerful messages in the session around banter vs bullying, staying safe online and mental health in general. It is important that as a school community we continue to have conversations with our young people around this content.

R U OK? Day

A reminder that tomorrow we acknowledge R U OK? Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear a splash of yellow highlighting the importance of checking in with our friends.

Onsite supervision

Many thanks to all families for your cooperation on our day of extreme weather. A reminder that there is no supervision on school grounds until 8:50am, 10 minutes prior to direct instruction. The day also finishes officially at 3:40pm. If you require your child to be onsite outside these hours please make contact with Their Care our before and after school care provider. It is unsafe for children to be left unattended on school grounds. For older children walking or riding to school please remind them not to arrive prior to these times also.

Japanese Speaking Contest

Thank you to all students who participated in the Japanese Speaking Contest at Monash University last Friday evening. Once again our students did an outstanding job and performed extremely well. Congratulations goes to all who participated and well done to those who either won or placed in their respective category. A special mention to Charlie Joyce who came 2nd in the junior section.

Wishing everyone have a fantastic holiday break.
