Cassia Transition News

M'LIS SCOTT & LETETIA POLYCHRONOPOULOS

Dear families,

Spring has certainly sprung! In fact, it feels a bit like we skipped spring and went to an early summer! The leaves on our mulberry trees are big and shady! We have put ropes around the trunks to remind everyone not to climb while the trees are busy growing their leaves and berries. The wattles and bottlebrush are flowering and out on country, golden everlastings, ptilotus, dusky blue bells and billy buttons are blooming in areas where there is no buffel!

In our classroom, we farewelled King and Queen Winter and welcomed Lady Spring!

The Cassia Spring festival is on Thursday 19th September 8.30am – 10.30am

At the end of each term, we celebrate and acknowledge the season with a special festival. In preparation for our spring festival, we are learning spring songs and little dances. The spring festival is a lovely time to celebrate as we leave the cold weather behind and honour the changing of the season, the warmth of the sun and the new growth that comes. Last week the children made the festival invitation for you which went home in their school bags on Thursday. If you haven’t seen it yet, hunt through the bag! It contains all the details of the festival for you.

This week we have been busy working on our special festival craft. The 3 weeks leading up to our Cassia festivals are rich and full, with a focus on the festival and the season we are in. Our nature tables reflect where we are, what is growing on country around us and we sing songs and tell stories that also reflect the season we are in. We also notice the growth of the mulberry trees, wait for the mulberries to ripen, and are aware that not only do we not need all those layers of clothing anymore, but we often need to seek out shade to play in! It is implicit, embodied learning, full immersion in the experience, deep learning occurring through the senses.

On the morning of the festival:

All families are invited to come to Cassia for the morning. Let us know if you cannot come. If there is anything you are unsure about, please ask! The children will go home with you on Thursday after the festival. The next day, Friday 20th September, is Garden Day for the older children, and the final day of Term 3.

  • Please come dressed in spring colours such as pink, purple, green or yellow by 8.30 am.
  • We ask you to wait outside the mulberry tree gate and we’ll sing you in at 8.30am.
  • Please bring a plate of healthy finger food to share for our festival morning tea. Please take this into your Cassia classroom on arrival.
  • Please bring flowers for the garlands. There will be an area to place these on the lawn.

Festival practice: On Wednesday morning, the 18th September, the 2 Cassia classes will practice our singing and dancing together at the beginning of the school day. Please aim to be on time that day!

We are looking forward to sharing this special occasion with you.

And so, another term comes to a close! We are grateful as always for your continued support of your child in their Cassia learning space and for entrusting your precious children into our care.

Have a wonderful Spring break! Term 4 begins on Tuesday 8th October.

With love,

M’Lis and Letetia, Sophie and Rose
