Mark Bernadas

February 2024

Introducing Mark Bernadas teaching Science and Mathematics.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

Teaching allows me to combine my passion for Maths and Science that rightfully focuses towards inspiring the next generation.

How long have you been in the teaching game?

I’ve been fortunate enough to be accepted as a Full-Time employee at Mullauna whilst also completing my last round of placement here last year.  This makes 2024 my first year as an educator!

What was your last place of employment - school/university or another organisation?

Before starting at Mullauna, I was studying at Swinburne University while completing my Double Degree. My prior work experience mainly revolved around Hospitality and Warehousing.

What do you love most about teaching?

Witnessing the satisfaction a student experiences, after rationalizing the ‘unknown’ parts of learning, has always been a sign for me to continue in replicating these genuine moments.

What has been one of your best teaching moments?

Reintroducing myself to students I had the pleasure in teaching during my rounds last year remains as a core memory for me.

What would be 3 things that you would like your students to know about you?

  1. It’s never too late to start collecting sets of Lego.
  2.  I have 7-year-old ginger tabby cat named Hiro.
  3. I was a blue belt in Karate.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

Before COVID, my family had made a tradition in visiting the Philippines every 2 years to reunite with our immediate family members. Exploring the islands that surround Manila have always been an essential for us!

What TV show/series did you last binge watch?

Modern Family – I still find myself laughing at the same scenes even after recently rewatching it earlier this year.

If you could wear Harry’s invisibility cloak for one day, where would you go and what would you do? That’s Harry Potter’s cloak not Harry Ruff’s cloak 😊

I would go into the Department of Education and rightfully zero out every teacher’s tertiary debt to even out the playing field.

What is the one piece of ‘advice’ or the one thing that you always say to your students?

To become remotely good at anything, consistency is key.

Thank you, and welcome to Mullauna College, Mark!
