Chanel Langdon

February 2024

Introducing Ms Langdon

Chanel Langdon completed her Bachelor of Music at the Victorian College of the Arts/ Melbourne University in 2022. She has a passion for improvisation in learning and believes that music should be fun and accessible for everyone to enjoy.

Chanel frequently gigs around Melbourne with her own bands and music, most commonly playing jazz, funk, pop and rock. Chanel continues to study at the University of Melbourne as she completes her Master of Music specializing in teaching instrumental music.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I decided to pursue instrumental music teaching as I loved the experience of learning an instrument myself in high school. Instrumental music can be challenging, but always lots fun and can lead to lifelong friendships with peers/ bandmates. I hope to support a similar environment of love and enjoyment for creating music with others.

How long have you been in the teaching game?

This will be my first-year teaching!

What was your last place of employment - school/university or another organisation?

I’m currently completing my Masters of Music (performance teaching) part time at Melbourne University. I also work part time at The Music Place in South Melbourne.

What do you love most about teaching?

I love witnessing the moment something just clicks with a student. Music can be a challenging, but very rewarding adventure and I love to support others through that journey.

What has been one of your best teaching moments?

My best teaching moments have always been when students are having fun, learning and playing their instruments together. Its so nice to learn in a relaxed, supportive environment where students feel free to be creative and inquisitive.

What would be 3 things that you would like your students to

know about you?

  1. I have a Groodle named Tilly (nicknames include Madam Tilly, Chicken, Bubs and Gorgeous Girl)
  2. I Love camping by the beach.
  3. I’m in the band Poet Street and we play jazz, pop and funk.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

I love Wilsons Prom, it’s simply gorgeous walking/ hiking and enjoying the beaches and wildlife.

What TV show/series did you last binge watch?

Dash Cams Australia always gives me a laugh!

If you could wear Harry’s invisibility cloak for one day, where would you go and what would you do? That’s Harry Potter’s cloak not Harry Ruff’s cloak 😊

Ooh this is a fun one, I’d prank people by making things look like they were floating around them!

What is the one piece of ‘advice’ or the one thing that you always say to your students?

Music is supposed to be fun, don’t let self-doubt, frustration or stress get in the way of simply enjoying music.

Thank you, and welcome to Mullauna College, Ms Langdon!
