Learning Powers this Week!

Each week we are introducing you to St Joseph’s Learning Powers. These have been designed to support students to build their dispositions for learning and embed the skills needed to be lifelong learners. Each week students and staff will be focused on one or two learning powers by connecting them to our learning to deepen our understanding. This week our Focus Learning Powers are Flexible Learner and Resilient Learning.

Flexible Learner

This learning power supports students to see mistakes as opportunities to learn. It encourages them to be open to new learning and willing to change their thinking rather than staying fixed in their mindset. This learning power helps students understand that their brain is always making connections and growing.

Resilient Learner

Our second learning power is Resilient Learner. Resilient learners don’t give up when faced with a challenge. They keep trying new things or ideas when learning becomes challenging. When students develop their resilience in learning they are more willing to attempt new learning and keep practising new skills until they are mastered.

Being a Flexible and Resilient Learner at home:

  • Celebrate new learning with your child. When they come home with new facts or achievements sharing these is a way of embedding their understanding.
  • Let your child struggle a little in learning. If they are trying something new or stuck ask, What have you learned that could help you?
  • Talk about your learning at home or times when you have to persist through a challenging learning situation.
