News from the Chicken Coop

Thank you

Thanks to the Roberts and McKay families for looking after our gorgeous feathered friends over the last couple of weekends. We heard you got lots of eggs, yum!

Egg-citing News!

A Massive thank you to the Coates family who have donated their time to  install an automatic door on the chicken coop! As you can see the girls love using their new sturdy door which opens early in the morning and closes just after they've gone to bed, amazing!

The other fabulous benefit of the door is that families on chicken duty only need to pop up once a day to collect the eggs and check their food and water. How easy is that? If you’d like to put your name down for the school holiday roster please email Mel at mkerwin@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au with your preferred dates (3-4 days if possible).

Egg Lotto

Tickets are available to buy at any time, just bring your money into school and the Environment Leaders will help you out. We usually sell tickets in front of the school on Wednesday afternoons from 3:10-3:20pm, selling tickets to students, parents, grandparents and carers.

All the money we make is put back into buying food and other necessities for our chickens. The next Egg Lotto draw will be Monday 11 March. There will be a few dozen eggs available to win so get your winning $1 raffle ticket soon!

News from the Garden

Each week we sell Egg Lotto tickets and sometimes fresh produce from our garden depending on what’s ready to harvest. There is always fabulous worm juice available (organic liquid fertiliser from our worm farms), just ask for it if it’s not on display.

Please come and visit our little stall on Wednesdays, you never know what we might have to sell along with the egg lotto tickets!

Clean Up Australia Day for schools

Last Friday St John’s participated in Clean Up Australia Day. Each class was given a bucket and gloves to clean up any rubbish they find in their designated area around the school. Once we collected the rubbish we weighed it to see how much rubbish each class found. We’re going to put this into a table to compare the amount of rubbish found in different areas of the school. We wonder in which area will we have found the most rubbish?
