Senior Sport Gala Day #1

Just a reminder that our first Senior Gala Day is tomorrow (Friday 1st March) at various locations.  Students will be required at school by 8:45am to get their name marked off the role and organised for the correct bus.  Please remember to wear your sports uniform, runners and hat.  Students will also be required to bring their snack and lunch as there will be NO LUNCH ORDERS for seniors on this day.

Down Ball Australia lunchtime tournament:

On Friday 22nd March, Down ball Australia will be coming out to hold a lunch time tournament for students to participate in.  This is an optional event for students as Down ball Australia visited CHPS last year and conducted workshops during PE lessons.  Further information will be communicated to students in the coming weeks.

National Ride2School Day:

National Ride2School Day is on Friday 22nd March, 2024

National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and one of the best days on the school calendar.  Let’s discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future.

Students can ride, scoot, skate or walk to school.  Remember to wear a helmet if riding. Students in Prep – Year 3 must be accompanied by an adult.  You can park and leave your bike or scooter at school for the day in the following areas:

Environment and Sustainability

Parv Patel, Eco leader.

In Year Five and Six we have been learning about which area has the most litter in Croydon Hills P.S.  Each class had an area to check and then in maths we created graphs representing where it is in the entire school.

The class that picked up the most rubbish got a Bamboo plant for their room, which was 5KG. 2nd was 5KT, 3rd 6LD, 4th 6KF, 5th 6RT, 6th 5WS, 7th 6EP and 8th 5LC.

Just a reminder that Sunday the 3rd of March 2024 is Clean Up Australia Day.

Come on, parents get involved.

This Friday, the 1st is Clean Up the School and we will be having the ‘Litter Committee’ picking up litter at recess.

From our Resource Smart Schools Coordinator.

On a positive note, I thought you may like to know what a great impact you are having on our environment through you and your school’s sustainability works.

During 2023 the Eastern Region ResourceSmart Schools have:  - Decreased Greenhouse Gas emissions by 1169 Tonnes  - Diverted 1,517 m3 of waste from landfill  - Reduced water usage by 11,784 KL  - Reduced energy usage by 1,218,508 kWh  - Saved $362,056 through these resource efficiencies

This does not include the influence that you have had on your school communities and the savings that they have made. So a big congratulations and thank you from me and our planet.

At C.H.P.S we have a three bin system in the yard. It works by using a landfill bin, a recycling bin and a compost bin, each labelled by a colour.  The bin system is pretty easy to understand so preps can too.

From Grade 3 to Grade 6 every class gets two weeks of bin duty.  We put the bins out in eating areas before recess and bring them in at the end of lunch.  When we bring the bins in we have to sort out the stuff in them.  Food waste from the green bin goes to the worm composters.  Recycling goes into the big blue bins for council pick up and the other stuff goes into landfill.  Because of our nude food lunch boxes our school doesn’t put a lot in our redbins, but sorting them out can get pretty yuck when kids put stuff in the wrong bin!

Library News

Library Club - A reminder to all students and guardians that the library is open at lunchtime on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 2.00pm until 2.20pm (the first half of lunch playtime) for students to come in and read, draw, and play board games. All students are welcome during these times. If you think your child may benefit from a quiet space please remind them about Library Club.

Senior Book Club – This will start in the library next Tuesday 5 March at 2.00pm for Year 5 and Year 6 students. Bring along a book you are reading or a book you have recently read to the library and we will share our recommendations. Our Library Captains, Olivia and Zoe will be there, and we may even have cookies!

See you in the library
