School Play Date

What a wonderful turn out it was yesterday afternoon! It was great seeing so many different families interact with each other! We hope the afternoon was a good opportunity for parents to meet and greet each other.

Late arrivals and early leavers

We are seeing several students arriving at school after the 9:00 am bell. It is important that students arrive at school on time as it settles them better and creates a routine.  It is also highly likely that the classroom teacher will have already marked the roll and your child may be marked as absent. If your child is marked absent from school you will get a notification from the school office saying that your child is not present at school.

If your child needs to leave school early for whatever reason, please email your teacher and let them know as soon as you can so that we can get your child ready to go. It is also disruptive to the classroom when kids have to quickly scramble their belongings and leave, especially when students are in a Specialist Class.

Unwell students

As we creep towards Winter, students are more prone to illnesses. If your child has been unwell, please keep them home. If they have vomited, we ask that you keep them home for another 48 hours after the last time they vomited. This will help us ensure that no bugs and illnesses are circulated around the class as we do have some children who are immunocompromised. We thank you for your understanding in keeping our classroom safe for all.

Library bags

Each week, students are required to bring a library bag in order to borrow books. We have noticed that a number of students consistently don't bring a library bag to school on their designated day for a library session. Please encourage your child to be independent and look after the books they have borrowed, their library bag and to remember to bring it weekly.

Parents and Literacy Night (English as an Additional Language)

Each year at Vermont Primary School we offer a program called Parents and Literacy (PAL). It involves two sessions: a Reading session and a Writing session, which have previously been held. Next week, there is an opportunity to attend a third session for parents with English as an additional language (PEAL).   It will be held on Tuesday the 5th of March.   Areas that will be covered include:

  • What you can do to help your children develop their understanding of English,
  • The importance of communication with the school i.e. whole school newsletter, emails, school office, meetings with teachers etc,
  • Opportunities to get involved in school life, e.g. Community Network,
  • Opportunities for questions to clarify events, terminology or programs at VPS.

This is open to all our families and will be held in the Vermont Primary School Learning Centre on Tuesday the 5th of March 2024 from 6:30pm until 8:00pm.
