Nunawading District Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to the Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students who represented Vermont Primary School at the Nunawading District Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 21st February 2024.   The children swam with great enthusiasm and displayed wonderful sportsmanship with many students achieving personal bests on the day.

I’m pleased to inform the school community that Vermont Primary School finished second place in both the overall and aggregate shields.  Thank you to all parents and teachers who came along to support the children and help them prepare for their events.

The following students have qualified for the Whitehorse Division Swimming Carnival next Wednesday 6th March at Aquanation Ringwood.

House Athletics Carnival

The House Athletics is always a busy day with every student participating in high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, 100m sprint, 200m sprint and 800m.  Early next term, students will also be given the opportunity to compete in the 1500m and 80m hurdles which will be conducted on the Vermont Reserve.

After a long and competitive day of competition, only 40 points separated 1st and 2nd with Canterbury eventually being crowned this year’s House Athletics Champions.

The results from the day are as follows:

1st       Canterbury    411 points

2nd      Cantley         371 points

3rd      Terrara         368 points

4th      Nurlendi       291 points

Once again, the highlight of this year’s athletics carnival was the running of the teacher, parent, and student 4 x 100m relay during the lunch break.  It was an extremely competitive race with the students managing to hold off a fast-finishing teacher’s team.  I would like to thank our wonderful staff and parent community for making this fun event possible.

Sport Captain Report

The year 3 to 6 students all got on their buses to head to the athletics track.  It was a bit cloudy but would be 26 degrees later.  All age groups participated in eight events and had a great time.  I was called to participate in the parent, teacher and student relay and the students defeated the teachers!!!  It felt so great to finish in front of the teachers for once.  Although some students did not end up winning a ribbon, they all had an amazing time.  Thank you to all the teachers, especially Mr Walsh and our parent helpers for making the awesome day possible.
