TIPS FOR DADS AND FATHER FIGURES

(From The Fathering Project)

As a father or father figure, your role in shaping your son's life is profound and pivotal.

Boys thrive when they have an active, present and engaged positive father, father figure or positive male role model in their life - this can include a sports coach, male teacher, family friend – any positive male figure!

                                                                    TOP TIPS

1. Provide emotional support and connection

Boys need their fathers to provide a safe space where they can express their emotions freely. Encourage open communication and actively listen without judgment

2. Positive role modelling

Role model positive behaviour and attitudes. It can be challenging for young boys, and they need their father or father figure to set the example. Boys often learn by observing their fathers - Show them what it means to be respectful, compassionate, and responsible.

3. Quality time

Every child needs quality time with their parents! Do something with your son that interests him. Father-child shared activities positively influence a child's social and cognitive development.
