Sydney Catholic Schools Theme for 2024

Every year, Sydney Catholic Schools creates a theme inspired by Pope Francis’ message for the youth and the Church’s World Youth Day themes.

The scripture passage for the World Youth Day theme for 2024, “Those who hope in the Lord will run and not be weary.” (Isaiah 40:31), recalls a tumultuous time in Israel’s history when the very existence of God’s people was threatened with annihilation.

Isaiah, the first major prophet, offered words of comfort to a disheartened people, reminding them to trust in God’s promises. These words resonate with believers today, echoing Pope Francis’ call to deepen our understanding of Christian hope.

In Christus Vivit, Pope Francis emphasizes that Christ is our hope, particularly for the youth, who are called to be missionaries of joy. The Church seeks to rekindle hope in the world, relying on young people as to be beacons of hope and joy. The image chosen for the SCS theme depicts Catholics journeying from around the world to World Youth Day, symbolizing their aspiration for spiritual renewal.

As Presentation People and members of the Catholic school community, we are called to journey with our students, families, and the wider Church community as joyful witnesses to hope.
