Drama students in Years 7 to 11 were given the opportunity to view the premier season of ‘Crossing the Divide', by Shock Therapy Arts. The performance utilised the physical landscape of the Great Dividing Range to serve as an allegory for the pertinent issues that Australia is grappling with and the divide between various parts of our society. Crossing the Divide asked the question,

“Can we find a path to a more unified Australia, or is the distance too vast to cross and will we always be divided?"

Irish Dancing classes continue on a Tuesday afternoon for all Primary level students. We are looking forward to performing at the upcoming Harmony Day.

Harmony Day Assembly is fast approaching! We have a ‘Parade of Nations’, during which students from different cultural backgrounds parade through the assembly in national dress or carry a flag from their country of origin.

2024 Arts Day - Coming Soon!

Canzona at St Paul's Presbyterian Church

Last Friday, Canzona performed as part of the World Day of Prayer service at St Paul's Presbyterian Church. This is a global day of prayer for churches around the world and Canzona provided music throughout the service.

The theme of the service was "I beg you...bear with one another in love". The guest speaker was Dr Carolyn Russell, a physician and Christian Counsellor, who spoke to the Bible passage from Ephesians 4:2. This was a wonderful opportunity for Canzona to support this community event. The students were outstanding ambassadors for the College. Below is an email sent from the Music Co-Ordinator at St Paul’s:

“How wonderful it was to have you and the choir join us for Friday’s World Day of Prayer. Your rendition of Dona Nobis Pacem was just so beautiful and sensitive. Very appropriate for the day. God had it in hand that you would be actually working on that piece before our collaboration even began!

Having the extra voices for the hymn singing was so good too. Please tell the girls they were wonderful in all respects.”

Music at Open Day Tours

We extend our gratitude to the Primary and Secondary string players for their contribution of background music during our Head of School-led Tours, enhancing the atmosphere as families gather and await the commencement of events.

Last Friday marked the debut performance of our Junior String Ensemble, featuring Selena Sun, Haiden Kim, Alfred Chen, Sari Weyer, Lia Lee and Myla Gant. This is the first time we have showcased a Primary ensemble at this event.

On Wednesday, members of the Allegria Chamber Strings (Tiffany Lee, DoHee Lee, Manidhi Chezhian, Lucija Wiggins and Dimity Whitaker) performed for our Secondary tours. Sincere thanks to you all.

2024 Primary Musicfest

Musicfest is an opportunity for students to perform as soloists on their instrument/voice. This year we will be running Musicfest as a Primary event. We encourage all our Primary musicians who are receiving private tuition in Years 2-6 to participate.

The schedule will be as follows:

Monday 18 March: 3:30-4:30pm, College Hall – Piano

Tuesday 19 March: 3:30-5:00pm, College Hall – Strings/Guitar

Wednesday 20 March: 3:30-4:30pm, MU2 – Band/Vocal

Staff Performances

Our expert cello instructor, Lynne Backstrom, will perform with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra at a unique concert for children next weekend. This event will showcase young soloists and include a narrative of Paddington Bear, with Ed LeBroq from ABCFM as the presenter. A family package for two adults and two children is available.
