Holy Saviour School Bulletin

Dear Families,

What a rollercoaster week we’ve had with the weather! I hope everyone managed to get through without any major damage, and if you lost power, hopefully it’s finally restored.

Shrove Tuesday and Pancakes at Holy Saviour

Traditionally at Holy Saviour, individual classes have prepared and cooked pancakes as part of our Shrove Tuesday celebrations at varying times during the day. This year, we cooked all the pancakes on the BBQ and shared them together as part of our lunch. Check out the photos below!

Halogen Young Leaders Day

Today, Miss Congerton and I took our Year 6 students to the Halogen National Young Leaders Day at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The National Young Leaders Day consists of keynote talks from various speakers, multimedia presentations and interactive learning that seeks a range of specific outcomes for young people who aspire to lead themselves and others well. A great day was had by all, check out the full report in the newsletter next week!

District Swimming

Congratulations to Bethany De Silva, Penny Merrigan and Thomas Eddington who represented Holy Saviour at the District Swimming event yesterday. Bethany placed second in girls under 12 breastsroke, Thomas placed second in freestyle and Penny placed first in backstroke. What an absolute incredible effort by all three swimmers. Holy Saviour placed second overall in our Highbury District and ninth in the combined Highbury and Gardiners district.  Please join us in congratulating them as they will be completing the Divisional swimming on Friday 1st of March. Good luck to our super star swimming team! A very big thank you to Mrs Brooke Eddington for being a parent helper on the day.

School Sports and Family Picnic

Our School Sports are going to look a little different this year. They are going to be held on Friday 22nd March, beginning at 4pm with some traditional flat races (varying distances) and relays followed by Kaboom Sports from 5-6:30 pm which is a wonderful active fun social event. This event will be celebrated with the students and families of St Timothy’s, and held on the St Timothy’s school site. We ask that families bring along a picnic to enjoy a very special evening together. We are still co-ordinating/ finalising plans so final times will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

Year 5/6 Camp

As part of Holy Saviour’s Outdoor Education Program, students in Year 5 and Year 6 attend a residential camp. This year the venue for our camp is Stringybark Lodge Camp, Gembrook, it is a three-day, two-night experience.  Students will be attending camp on the following dates: Wednesday 6th to Friday 8 March 2024. This year we will be attending camp with the Year 5 students from St Timothy's Primary School, Vermont. Permission slips were sent out via Operoo last week. Please make sure these are completed by Tuesday 20th February.

Uniform ~ House Tops

At the beginning of 2022, we introduced our new House Sport polos, and with it, a two-year ‘phasing in’ period. As we begin 2024, the expectation is that all students will be wearing the new House Polos this year. The uniform policy can be found here. We also remind parents that term 4 has a ‘No Hat – No Play’ Sunsmart policy. It must also be a proper Holy Saviour hat, normal caps with other logos are not our school uniform and children will not be allowed to play unless it is the proper hat. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

School Supervision Times

It is a requirement that families are informed of supervision hours. As stated in the parent handbook, student supervision is from 8:40am until 3:45pm (M/Tu/Th/Fr) and 3:30pm on a Wednesday. For legal reasons, we clearly stipulate these times, and encourage parents not to have children on school grounds before or after these times unless required for specific school activities. We offer before school care in conjunction with Weeden Heights PS, as well as after school care onsite to help accommodate families. If you have any concerns regarding any of the above information, please make an appointment to see me so that we can discuss it further.
