Wellbeing -Mindful Movement
This week in our wellbeing focus, students have been learning about mindful movement—a simple but powerful way to help calm our minds and bodies. Mindful movement encourages us to slow down and pay attention to how our body moves, how we breathe, and what we notice around us.
Students are learning that movement doesn’t always have to be fast or competitive. Activities such as walking, stretching, or even taking a few slow breaths can help us feel more focused, relaxed, and ready to learn.
One activity we encourage families to try at home is a Family Walking Meditation. When you go for a short walk together, try to slow down and notice each step you take. Pay attention to your breathing, how your arms swing, and how your feet touch the ground. This small moment of mindfulness can help children develop awareness of their bodies and emotions.
After the walk, you might like to ask your child:
- How did it feel to move slowly and focus on your breathing?
- Did it help your body or mind feel calmer?
- When else could mindful movement help during your day?
These simple strategies help children build important wellbeing skills such as calming their bodies, focusing their attention, and managing big emotions.
We encourage families to continue these conversations at home and take small moments together to slow down, breathe, and move mindfully.
