Celebrating our Rich Cultural Diversity
Harmony Week, celebrated from March 16th to 22nd , is a time to celebrate Australia's rich cultural diversity and promote a sense of belonging for everyone. It's about recognizing that we are all different, but we can all live together peacefully and respectfully. Our diverse backgrounds make our school and community stronger and more vibrant. This week, students will be participating in a variety of fun and educational activities, including cultural crafts, storytelling, and learning about different traditions, all to help us understand and appreciate each other's unique contributions. We'll be working together to create a harmonious and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected! On Thursday 19th March, I am looking forward to the HPS Bush Dance wearing Orange to celebrate my Dutch heritage, to have fun and to show my support for diversity and inclusion.
Eid Mubarak!!!
Eid Mubarak to all our Muslim families at HPS! We hope you had a wonderful Ramadan and we wish you a joyous Eid.
What is Eid?
Eid is a holiday of the Islamic faith. There are two different Eid days each year which Muslims celebrate, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Fitr is the celebration that occurs at the end of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It is a day of social gatherings, delicious foods, dressing in your best clothes and gift-giving. On Eid, there is a special Eid prayer in the morning where Muslims gather to pray together at the mosque. It is a very beloved day to all Muslims.
A Milestone Celebration for a Local Legend
What a giving and close-knit community we have at HPS! On Wednesday morning, families, Student Leaders, and our Foundation students gathered to surprise our legendary crossing supervisor, John, for his 80th birthday. It was a truly special moment as we came together to show our appreciation for his years of service. John was absolutely thrilled with the gift from our families, and your collective kindness has truly made him feel like a cherished member of HPS. Thank you for making his big day so memorable!
Keeping Our Children Safe at School: A Shared Responsibility
At Highton Primary our top priority is the safety and well-being of all students. We believe this is a responsibility shared by the entire school community, including parents and carers.
Working Together for a Smooth Drop-off and Pick-up:
- Parking and Traffic Flow: To ensure a safe and efficient environment, we kindly ask everyone to:
- Avoid parking in the two-minute zone and leaving your car. Doing so creates congestion on Roslyn Road, increasing the risk of accidents.
- If your child isn't immediately visible at the front gate, please consider parking your car and walking to pick them up. Alternatively, drive around the block.
- Please refrain from dropping off or picking up students within the carpark. Walking through this area poses a significant safety risk for students.
Alternative Options:
- Consider parking further away and walking with your child to and from school. This can be a healthy and enjoyable way to start or end the day.
- For older students, arrange to meet them at a designated spot outside the school, such as across the designated school crossing or further up Roslyn Road.
Ensuring Student Safety:
- Please ensure your child exits and enters the car from the curb side door. This minimizes the risk of accidents near moving traffic.
