Supporting Wellbeing at Home
At Highton Primary School, we continue to embed The Resilience Project to support students’ emotional wellbeing and positive mental health. We focus on three key pillars: Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM), helping students to build resilience, develop positive relationships, and manage challenges effectively.
Throughout the school, students are engaging in learning experiences that encourage them to:
- Recognise and express gratitude
- Show empathy and kindness towards others
- Practise mindfulness to support calmness and focus
How families can support this learning at home:
Gratitude
- Share “three good things” from your day at the dinner table
- Encourage your child to say thank you and reflect on what they appreciate
Empathy
- Talk about how others might be feeling in different situations
- Encourage acts of kindness, such as helping a sibling or friend
Mindfulness
- Practise slow, deep breathing together
- Take a few quiet moments each day to pause and notice thoughts and feelings
By reinforcing these simple strategies at home, families play an important role in strengthening students’ resilience and emotional wellbeing.
Seussical the Musical – Excursion Opportunity
Students in Grades 1–6 will be attending a live performance of Seussical the Musical, presented by the GSODA, on Thursday 25th June.
This engaging production brings to life the imaginative world of Dr Seuss, offering students a valuable opportunity to:
- Experience live theatre and performance
- Develop an appreciation for storytelling, music, and the arts
- Explore themes such as friendship, perseverance, and inclusion
- Build connections to literacy through familiar characters and narratives
This excursion supports our ongoing commitment to providing rich learning experiences beyond the classroom, particularly in the areas of creativity and student wellbeing.
Further details, including permission information and costs, will be shared with families soon.
Enjoy your term break,
