PYP In Action

By Senior Team

Our Senior Students recently completed their first Unit of Inquiry, and it was fantastic to see such high levels of engagement throughout. The unit explored the central idea “Understanding the influences on consumers helps us make informed choices.” Students investigated key concepts including responsibility, perspective and function, and applied these across a range of learning experiences. In English, our class novel Blueback provided meaningful opportunities to connect and discuss these concepts in authentic ways. Students also inquired into the world of advertising, exploring how and why certain products appeal to consumers. They analysed both digital and print advertisements, identifying key features and persuasive techniques used to influence decisions. For their summative assessment, students worked collaboratively to create either a digital or print advertisement for a product of their choice, either existing or original. This was a highlight of the unit, with students showing great creativity in developing logos, planning their ideas and filming their advertisements in small groups. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they shared their final products with their peers.
