School Council Update

We recently farewelled a number of valued School Council office bearers and would like to sincerely thank them for their service to Macedon Primary School. A special thank you to our past School Council President, Adrian Caltabiano, for his dedication, hard work and ongoing support. I am very grateful for his patience and for always being willing to help out. We also thank our outgoing Treasurer, Mark Bichan, who worked tirelessly to ensure School Council had a clear understanding of the school’s finances, and our outgoing Vice President, Melissa Caligiuri, who was always generous with her time and committed to helping create wonderful opportunities for our students.

Last week, we elected our new School Council office bearers. Congratulations to our new President, Fran Squires, and Vice President, Christina Szworak. We also welcome our parent School Council members, Danielle Gori, Andrew Powell and Jeremy Taylor, along with our staff School Council members, Andrew Bloomfield, Karren Baker, Tracy Tadd and Veronica Wuthrich. We look forward to working together to support Macedon Primary School and its community.

2027 Prep Enrolment Process

Starting school is a very exciting milestone for children and families, and we look forward to welcoming our 2027 Prep students to Macedon Primary School. Beginning school is an important step, and we are excited to support families through the enrolment process.

All Victorian government primary schools are required to follow the statewide Foundation enrolment timeline in 2026 to support enrolments for the 2027 school year. From the beginning of Term 2, 2026, parents and carers can begin submitting enrolment applications. Applications are due by 31 July 2026.

Schools will notify families of the outcome of their application between 3 and 14 August 2026. Families who receive an enrolment offer are asked to respond by 28 August 2026. Any written appeals must also be lodged by 28 August 2026, with schools notifying families of the outcome of appeals by 11 September 2026.

SWPBS Update

We are very excited to share a positive update on our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) work at Macedon Primary School. Our students have now collected over 1500 tickets for demonstrating positive behaviours across the school. This is a wonderful achievement and reflects the way our students are working hard to show our school values each day.

This week, we were also thrilled to award our first gum leaf. This is an exciting milestone in our SWPBS journey and a great example of how students are being recognised for making positive choices. We are incredibly proud of our students and the way they continue to contribute to a respectful, supportive and positive school environment.

Adopt a Garden Bed

Thank you to the parents who have already volunteered to adopt a garden bed. We especially appreciate the work done on the pots at the front entrance, which have been beautifully transformed and look amazing.

There is still time to get involved. If your family is interested in adopting a garden bed, please contact Salina at the office.

Attendance

Regular attendance is very important and makes a significant difference to student learning. In Victoria, all children aged 6 to 17 are required to attend school every day unless an exemption has been granted, and parents and carers must provide an explanation for any absence.

At Macedon Primary School, we are aiming for our average number of absences per child to be under 16.5 days for the year. If a child is averaging more than 5 days absent per term, Sue, our Mental Health and Wellbeing teacher, will contact families to discuss how we can work together to support improved attendance. We also ask that any family holidays during school time are discussed with the school and approved in advance.

Protecting against measles

Measles cases are increasing in Victoria and around the world. Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads through airborne droplets and can cause serious illness, particularly for young children, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, tiredness, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a red rash that usually begins on the face before spreading. If your child develops symptoms, please keep them home, seek medical advice and testing, and let the school know.

Vaccination is the safest and most effective way to protect against measles, with 2 doses needed for full protection. Families are encouraged to check their child’s immunisation records, particularly if they are planning travel, were born during or after 1966, or were born overseas. Vaccination records can be checked through Medicare, the Australian Immunisation Register, personal health records, or by speaking with your GP or immunisation provider. Free measles vaccines are available for many children and adults, including those who are unsure of their vaccination status. If your child receives any catch-up vaccinations, please provide the school with an updated immunisation history statement.
