Welcome back to Term 2!

We are always reflecting on how we can best support every child to grow, and our motto “Happy Kids Learn” continues to guide everything we do. It is strongly supported by current education research, which consistently shows that when students feel safe, connected and valued, they are far more likely to engage deeply in their learning and achieve success.

Recent global research, including work from the OECD, highlights that student wellbeing and learning are deeply interconnected. In fact, mental health and a strong sense of belonging are now considered just as important as academic achievement in preparing young people for the future.

You may have also heard conversations about changing attention spans in children. Educators worldwide are noticing that students benefit from learning that is interactive, purposeful and broken into meaningful chunks. Strategies such as hands-on activities, movement breaks and collaborative learning are proving highly effective in helping students stay focused and retain information.

At our school, you will see these ideas brought to life in many ways. Teachers are being increasingly intentional about how lessons are structured, how learning goals are communicated, and how feedback is provided to students. There is a strong focus on explicit teaching, alongside opportunities for students to collaborate, reflect and apply their learning in meaningful ways.

Supporting this work is our Peaceful Kids mindfulness and resilience program, which continues to help students build emotional awareness, develop coping strategies and strengthen their sense of calm and confidence. This is an important part of how we nurture the whole child and create classrooms where every learner feels ready to succeed. Your can read more about the Peaceful Kids program on the Student Wellbeing page of this newsletter.

As a community, we all play a role in supporting our children to thrive. Simple things like maintaining routines, encouraging curiosity, and talking positively about learning make a powerful difference.

Education Week

To celebrate Education Week, we are again hosting our annual Special Visitors Morning. Students are encouraged to invite a special visitor to join them in their classrooms to participate in a variety of games and activities between 9:00–10:00am on Monday 11th May.

We look forward to welcoming you into our classrooms and sharing in the joy of learning together.

Warm regards,

Natalie, Claire and Sam
