Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 2! It is wonderful to be back at Nazareth after seven (7) months away. Distance certainly provides perspective. Being away has only deepened my appreciation for the incredible Community we have here.

During my absence, I was honoured to be chosen and seconded to De La Salle College. This was a valuable learning opportunity as it allowed me to experience how another school operates.  Equally I hope the practices I shared were as beneficial to them as the insights I have brought back to Nazareth.

Upon returning, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting sixteen (16) new staff members.  The beauty of welcoming new staff members is they give new perspectives, see things in different ways and have the capacity to bring about positive change.  I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Mr Justin Duckett and Ms Claire Nailon for their outstanding leadership as Acting Co Principals.  Together, they have done an outstanding job.  They were strongly supported by members of the Leadership Team, together with Mr Victor Brusco and Mrs Deirdre Hughes, who both took on additional duties.  Thank you for all your work.

Nazareth’s theme for this year centres around ‘Gratitude’, a value I held close during my time away.  Nazareth has a wonderful community spirit.  Our College has a unique homely feel where students, staff members and families support one another.  Together, we can be truly grateful for the culture we have formed.  I warmly welcome all our new families, especially the Year 7 cohort who commenced this year.  I am delighted to hear your transition has been so successful and I hope we can continue to build on this over the coming years.

At the start of this Term, our teaching staff were engaged in a professional learning day. The focus was on learning.  How do we learn?  How do we improve?  What strategies help our students to flourish?  I have shared this focus and its importance with our students.  As a College, we hold high expectations for work requirements and completion.  We expect all students to be accountable and work to their full capacity.  Our staff have been directed to settle for nothing less than a student’s best effort.  We will ensure parents are kept informed, celebrate those who excel and support those who are underperforming to meet our standards.

This week our representative swimmers competed at the SIS Competition.  I congratulate every student who qualified and represented Nazareth with such pride.  A special mention to the following students:

  • Rainn Lee                          for breaking four individual records

  • Miguel Lobangco           for breaking the U/13 breaststroke record

In conclusion, I recently toured our new building, the Student Hub.  It is progressing quickly and it will not be long before we have access to this fantastic new facility.  Following are some photos of the progress works.
