Our Year of Justice: A Strong Start to 2026 at Marian College Sunshine West

It has been a fantastic, albeit busy, start to the year at Marian College Sunshine West as we embrace our 2026 theme of Justice – Making the Needs of the Vulnerable Paramount.

The early weeks of the school year are always filled with anticipation and energy, particularly as we welcomed our new cohort of Year 7 students into the Marian community. Through a range of orientation activities and shared experiences, we were reminded of the importance of connection, belonging, and inclusionvalues that sit at the heart of Justice. Ensuring that our youngest members feel safe, welcomed, and embraced is one of the first ways we seek to live our theme, doing justice by those newly entrusted to our care.

We stated the year with our Welcome Mass and Investiture Assembly, a beautiful and faith-filled way to mark the beginning of the school year and formally welcome our Year 7 Class of 2026. Celebrated by Father Leo, the Mass reminded us of the Gospel values that guide our community and call us to act justly, love generously, and serve others.

We also proudly recognised and celebrated our 2026 Student Leadership Team students who have already demonstrated integrity, responsibility, and a genuine commitment to leadership grounded in service. As leaders, they are called to uphold our theme of justice by advocating for others and contributing positively to our community.

One of the highlights of the term was our International Women’s Day celebration, where we gathered as a community to recognise and celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women locally and around the world. This occasion offered a powerful opportunity to reflect on equity, dignity, and the ongoing pursuit of justice for women in all contexts.

We were honoured to welcome Renee Mazloum, Co-CEO of BASP, as our guest speaker. Renee delivered an exceptionally inspiring and deeply moving address, reminding us of the power of resilience, compassion, courage, and collective action. Her message, framed through the lens of justice, resonated strongly with our community and prompted meaningful reflection, connection, and hope for a more inclusive future.

It has been a wonderful start to 2026, one grounded in faith, community, and a shared commitment to justice. We look forward with hope and purpose to the year ahead as we continue to make the needs of the vulnerable paramount in all that we do.
