Kildare College

Celebrating 60 Years

This Year of Justice is especially meaningful as we celebrate 60 Years of Kildare College.

On 13 March 1966, Kildare College officially opened its doors to just 32 students, learning together in a single building, our Hall, under the leadership of Sr Moira Broderick csb our first Teacher in Charge. What began as a bold and faith-filled vision has grown into a lasting legacy of Strength and Gentleness, shaping generations of young women and educators. Today, Kildare College is a thriving community of 799 students supported by more than 100 dedicated staff.

This significant milestone was beautifully acknowledged at our Opening College Mass, theme 'Past. Present. Future'. The celebration honoured the rich history and journey of Kildare College and marked more than the beginning of a new academic year; it was a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the story that has been quietly and courageously unfolding for six decades. We were honoured to welcome special guests, including Sr Sue Chambers csb, Kathy McEvoy (Co-Chair of the Trustees of Kildare Ministries), Past Principals, and Old Scholars from the founding Class of 1966. To commemorate the occasion, all students, staff, and guests received a blessed 60 Year Anniversary badge to be worn proudly throughout 2026 and treasured in years to come.

2026 also marks a pivotal moment in the College’s history as we begin the next chapter of our Master Plan. On Monday 23 March, demolition commenced on our original 1966 building, the Hall. Farewelling this iconic and much loved building has been an emotional experience, as it held countless memories, milestones, and moments across the College’s history. Yet, we embrace this transition with hope and excitement as construction begins on the new Lightbridge Centre, our Performing Arts and Wellbeing Centre, scheduled for completion in 2027.

The College has already held many events, activities and initiatives that connect to our Core Value of Justice. These include Harmony Week, International Women's Day, Australian Refugee Association Leadership Program, Environmental Group local clean up, Year 12 and Year 7 Belonging Workshop, Living Justice | Living Peace Workshops and Liturgies marking the beginning of Lent, Holy Week and Easter. These events, highlight our commitment to embedding our Core Value of Justice within our everyday interactions at Kildare.

With our Core Values guiding all that we do, Kildare College continues to grow with purpose and strength. We look forward with anticipation to the opportunities and experiences that the Year of Justice will continue to bring to our College community.
