Welcome back Prep families and carers,

We hope that students had the chance to spend quality time with family, friends and loved ones over the break.

Keep an eye out in coming weeks for students beginning to take their first home reader in their new home reader bag. They will take home one book a week, to be swapped weekly on Mondays.

Home reading tips:

  • Encourage them to use their finger to track their reading.
  • Please avoid jumping in to correct them as they read and let them take their time
  • If they seem stuck, say “sound it out”.

The photos from this newsletter are from the last few weeks of Term 1 including photos from lessons about resilience or ‘the learning pit’, copying and creating patterns, naming 2D shapes and finally the Easter Bonnet Parade. Enjoy!

Grade 1/2

In Grade 1/2 we have been getting stuck into our Term 2 Inquiry unit on Minibeasts. Students have had opportunities to share prior knowledge in class discussions to define and classify minibeasts.

We are studying a range of nonfiction books and videos to build our knowledge and will begin writing our own informative texts next week. Students will be encouraged to demonstrate curiosity throughout the unit and their questions will be shared and posted on classroom Wonder Walls.

We will practise our scientific observation skills as we look carefully to find minibeasts in our school yard environment and record our findings.

In Maths, students have conducted a survey to ask classmates about their favourite minibeasts. They have used tally marks to record data and represented their data on pictographs. We are looking forward to an exciting term of learning ahead!

Grade 5/6

Map Making

The 5/6 students have begun The Island Project, launching their learning through the creation and mapping of fictional island landscapes.

Students have embraced the creative process, using tanbark on paper to carefully trace detailed coastlines before adding regions and natural landforms to bring their ideas to life. It has been wonderful to see them draw on both their map-making knowledge and artistic skills to produce such detailed and imaginative work.

As part of this project, students are also applying their mathematical understanding, using scale, coordinates and units of measurement to create accurate maps. They have experimented with a range of artistic mediums, including charcoal, watercolour and fine liners, to give their maps a distinctive and unique appearance.

Hola! families.

¡Gracias! for your overwhelming support in sending photos of your children for our Cultural Diversity display—it is looking fantastic.

Many families and students pause in the hall to admire it, enjoying the opportunity to celebrate and recognise the wide range of countries represented within our school community.

¡Gracias!

How about a new song?

SANISH GREETINGS SONG  sung by José-Luis Orozco:

Buenos dias - Jose-Luis Orozco presenta Caramba Kids

These are perfect phrases to work into your family vocabulary when you say hello in the morning.
