Welcome back to Term 2. Please see below Chinese Curriculum Overview for this term. 

Foundation:

This term Foundation students are continuing to develop an understanding of Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. They will learn simple greetings, counting, colours, shapes as well as Chinese cultural events – Dragon Boat Festival. Students participate in songs, games, chants and a range of cultural activities.

 

Year 1:

This term Year 1 students are developing an understanding of Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. Students learn about time, days of the week, months of the year, drinks and Chinese cultural events – Dragon Boat Festival. They participate in songs, games, chants and a range of cultural activities. They will revise self-introduction, numbers and other previously learnt phrases e.g. likes/dislikes and colours. 

 

Year 2:

This term Year 2 students are developing an understanding of Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. Students learn about time, days of the week, months of the year, drinks and Chinese cultural events – Dragon Boat Festival. They participate in songs, games, chants and a range of cultural activities. They will revise self-introduction, numbers and other previously learnt phrases e.g. likes/dislikes and colours. 

 

Year 3:

This term Year 3 students are developing a further understanding of Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. Students learn about Australian currency, transport, weather and study the Chinese Pinyin phonic system and Chinese cultural events – Dragon Boat Festival. They participate in songs, games, chants and a range of cultural activities. They will revise self-introduction, numbers and other previously learnt phrases including likes/dislikes, colours, days and months.

 

Year 4:

This term Year 4 students are developing a further understanding of Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. Students learn about Australian currency, transport, weather and study the Chinese Pinyin phonic system and Chinese cultural events – Dragon Boat Festival. They participate in songs, games, chants and a range of cultural activities. This term Year 5 students are developing knowledge and skills in Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. Students will learn about occupations, calendar dates, Chinese zodiacs - how to describe what these animals can do and study the Chinese Pinyin phonic system as well as Chinese cultural events – Dragon Boat Festival. They participate in songs, games and a range of cultural activities. Students will be exploring the use of Chinese language on iPads and will take part in short question and answer exchanges.

 

Year 6:

This term Year 6 students are developing knowledge and skills in Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. Dragon Boat Festival 

This is a special and important event in Chinese culture. It is a traditional Chinese festival which falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which is in late May or June on the Gregorian calendar. In this year, Dragon Boat Festival falls on 10th of June (Monday). 

The students will be introduced to the origins of this festival in Chinese class. They will be participating in dragon boat making and other fun cultural activities when this festival occurs.
