Aluminium foil recycling

Hillsmeade PS ran an Easter egg and Easter bunny foil ball competition among classes that wrapped up last week.

In total our school collected 4.96kilograms of foil to be recycled!

Aluminium is a highly recyclable material but because it is light weight foil is often missed in the recycling process. To ensure your foil is recycled it needs to be rolled into a ball the size of a tennis ball.

Well done to 1E who collected 699grams of aluminium foil for recycling and won the competition.

Sustainability in STEM

Students across Prep - 6 who attend STEM sessions have been exploring a variety of topics around earth, living things and the way we contribute to the environment.

Grade 1's have been exploring seasons and the way weather plays a role in our everyday life.

Grade 2's have been exploring animals and their habitats, and how humans shape the way habitats change.

Grade 3's have been identifying causes of coastal erosion, both natural and man-made.

Grade 4's are continuing their exploration of photosynthesis and identifying experiments to confirm their predictions.

Grade 5's have been creating solar system models to represent their understanding of planets.

Grade 6's have begun projects exploring the way animals adapt to their environments and what happens when the environment forces the animal to adapt to change quickly.
